The central premise of the MIT Transit Program is that investment in intellectual capital is as important as investment in the physical infrastructure.”

Fred Salvucci
MIT Research Associate and Former Secretary of Transportation for Massachusetts

Welcome to the MIT Transit Lab. Research in the MIT Transit Lab focuses on several areas including service and operations planning, management, and control; transit policy, finance and strategy; and transportation modeling. Research is carried out principally by faculty and students in MIT’s Master of Science in Transportation program, a multi-disciplinary course of study involving both classroom and field work, supplemented by summer internships in transit agencies.
